DESCRIPTION
A Unit Secretary provides clerical support to patient care area(s) to ensure effective and efficient services are delivered.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides customer service support to patients, guests, and staff by answering telephones, taking messages, routing calls to appropriate individual(s), greeting new admissions, conducting customer service rounds, and assist with service recovery. When appropriate, answers customer's questions and provides requested information as necessary.
- Provides customer service support to patients, guests, and staff by providing directions, paging requested individual(s), and distributing and collecting appropriate paperwork and forms as necessary.
- Maintains patient records and transcribes physician orders as necessary.
- Maintains patient census and patient identification information in computer system.
- Orders and maintains appropriate inventory of unit supplies.
- Coaches and trains new associates in appropriate clerical and order management duties.
- Performs quality control audits of electronic medical records.
REQUIREMENTS
High School Diploma or equivalent required. Two (2) years experience in a clerical role in a medical setting. Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills, demonstrated organizational skills, and demonstrated customer service and interpersonal skills. Personal computer skills including Microsoft Word, Powerpoint, Excel, and other Windows-based applications preferred. Previous medical terminology experience preferred. Unit Secretary (US) certification preferred. Required in Clinical areas: Must be able to successfully pass the Basic Windows Skill Assessment at 80% or higher rating within 30 days of date of hire.
